If you are trying to find employment, either as a graduate, college leaver or just as a switch in career you’ve probably heard the career market is tough right now. It is true a lot of businesses are cutting back on staff and competition for jobs is tough. Despite this there’s also a great number of jobs available for people of any skill levels and qualifications, particularly in the South East of England which usually comes off better than other parts of the UK in ‘tough economic climates’. Here we go over a number of the best employment options and opportunities for job-hunters in the South of England.

Marketing & Advertising

A huge percentage of people in this area of England are employed in marketing sector careers and there’s likely to be strong demand for marketing professionals at all grades, this includes entry level roles as marketing “executives” suited to university or school leavers. Digital marketing in particular is increasing in demand and a good career market to go into as the country continues to “move online”.

Airport jobs

Despite the tightening of peoples finances impacting Brit’s holiday arrangements airports are significant recruiters in the area with 5 large airports all found inside the Greater London area the companies who own the airports are increasingly looking to improve the service they provide to customers and the airlines. Airport security personnel are also increasing in numbers with extra guidelines for security inspections being issued by the Government.

Accountancy Jobs

Accountancy is always an in demand employment type in the South East due to the great amount of businesses, large and SME’s, who are based the Home Counties and Gatwick Diamond commerce districts. Qualified accountants are likely to be in plenty of demand in the South East area but so to are accounting assistants and administration personnel with experience working for financial and bookkeeping offices.

Building & Construction

Construction and building is still a massively desirable profession in the South East. With regeneration developments in the town centres, new affordable homes projects and infrastructure improvements on the horizon, skilled and unskilled construction workers are always likely to be in high demand in the South of England. Also there’s an increasing drive from the government to encourage building firms to offer apprenticeships to young people in the area to combat youth unemployment.

Teachers

We’re constantly being told we’ve got a growing number of people in the UK (and the rest of the world for the matter!). In the South East of England we’re seeing a new ‘baby boom’ generation coming through with schools soon to be pushed beyond capacity. Its fair to say that there’s lots of trainee teachers coming out of universities each Summer and competition for newly qualified teacher jobs is high – regardless, as the youth populous of the South East continues to increase teaching looks sure to be a viable employment opportunity over the next decade.

Renting a Skip Advice

skipsWhile your household rubbish bins may be able to handle the majority of your domestic waste on a weekly basis, sometimes a job comes along that requires a bin with a greater capacity for rubbish. House revamping, basement clear out, building work and garden landscaping will all generate a large volume of refuge that requires a legal and quick method of collection and disposal. Renting a skip is the most practical and cheapest way of disposing of significant volumes of refuge, providing that you hire a skip of the right size and use it properly and responsibly. To aid you, here’s a practical guide demonstrating how to rent a skip in 3 easy steps.

1. Decide on the size of skip you need

Selecting a skip of the appropriate volume is critical; it’s preferable to hire one that’s slightly larger than you actually need as this is going to work out less expensive than the realisation later on in your project that you actually need to rent a second skip. Generally speaking skips can be hired four sizes:

Mini – this will hold around 25 to 35 filled bin bags.
Maxi skip – slightly larger this can take about 35 to 45 full black rubbish.
Builders – the most often requested skip, this has a capacity equivalent to around 65 to 85 filled bin and is perfect for clearance and home renovation refuge
8 yards – this is for bigger or bulky household items but should not usually be used for stones and other heavy waste. Large skips will hold around 210 filled black rubbish.

2. Make sure that your skip hire company is a certified refuge operator

It is a legal requirement that any company which transports and disposes of refuge materials must be a approved rubbish operator and licensed to do so. This is necessary to safeguard against illegal refuge disposal by unscrupulous waste transportation operators. It is easy to check on licenced rubbish carriers in your locality with the search engine on the Environment Agency’s site.

3. Fill your skip safely and legally

It is against the law to overfill a skip; talk to your skip hire company as to what constitutes overfilling and ensure that you adhere to the companies recommendation. Also, there is certain types of material which can’t be placed in a skip for disposal. These include: fridges and freezers, gas canisters, asbestos, any kind of liquid (e.g. oil etc), tyres, fluorescent lighting, car batteries, tv’s, medical refuge and any substance that could be flammable or explosive.
Should you need to get rid of any of these materials seek help from your skip rental provider or get in touch with the local council.

Exhibition stand options

The right choice of exhibition stand is crucial if you are to make the maximum possible impact on your audience and there are several styles to consider.

Outdoor banner stands provide instant impact and come in several styles to suit most budgets. These portable, space saving exhibition stands are designed to display large graphics and are re-useable. All styles are lightweight, quick and easy to erect and take down. They are available as retractable roller banners, pull-ups or simple tension banners which are the cheapest option. Double sided versions are also available.

Pop up stands are ideal for use at exhibitions, events, presentations and conferences and are available in various sizes. Lightweight and compact, pop up stands are fully portable consisting of a frame which pops up and locks together. Display panels of fabric or graphics are located onto magnetic bars which are then attached to the frame effectively forming an impressive, seamless stand.

Modular display stands are generally used for table top displays and point of sale stands. The term simply means that there are a number of components, or modules, which fit together to create the finished piece.

If you have small company branded items to give away, literature stands may be the most suitable design to choose. A literature stand is basically a small portable bookshelf with multiple shelves and is most effective used as an addition to your main display stand.

The old style traditional exhibition stand is still very popular. A traditional stand is composed simply of two rods placed securely in the ground supporting a basic banner. Between the rods a platform is erected on which the exhibit is positioned.

Simple folding panel display stands are another option although these can be rather unwieldy to transport and store in comparison to other styles and these days tend to look rather old fashioned.

How to Give Yourself Designer Stubble

stubbleDesigner stubble can be a useful way of trying out a new look for guys who are looking to get away from the ‘baby face syndrome’ and develop their masculinity a bit more. It is relatively easy and quick to do, usually only a weekend is needed to achieve the required hair growth and there is no transition awkwardness unlike a moustache or other types of beard.

There are several advantages to developing some stubble, one of these is that it helps to conceal a double chin and it can also give the appearance of a stronger jawline. Moreover it can be used to hide any skin flaws such as acne scars or spots. Not having to shave will also be good for your skin and will help reduce any shaving related problems such as ingrown hairs or shaving cuts. Most women are very keen on men’s stubble but it’s still worth checking with your partner before you start growing it as kissing someone with a prickly face can be annoying.

Growing the initial stubble is not usually a problem, what is a little more difficult is maintaining it without letting it get out of control. There are a wealth of products out there which are designed for this purpose. Special trimming scissors are available which can be used but the speed of an electric trimmer is generally preferred by most men. Many men’s electric shavers have attachments on them which allow for trimming, these are often perfectly adequate but they tend to be quite wide and difficult to manouver, especially around the jawline so a dedicated hair or sideburn trimmer with a narrower head is often useful.

After these useful tips we hope you have fun experimenting with your new look and are pleased with the results!

What to Look For in a Wedding Venue

Reception
Creative Commons License photo credit: iantmcfarland

When it comes to selecting a venue for your wedding the possibilities are endless. However, this is why many couples find it to be one of the most daunting aspects of wedding planning. Taking a few important things into consideration can make the job less stressful.

First, consider whether or not you prefer a church wedding. Many churches also have halls where you can also host the reception. Be sure to find out the rules that apply the your specific venue and how many people it can accommodate.

If you will be having many out-of-town guests, you may want to think about a banquet hall in a large hotel. Often, this type of facility will have catering and other services available, and many have different options for every budget. This will eliminate the job of hiring these services separately, saving you time and money. This is also the best option for those who are looking for a larger wedding, as these places are usually made to accommodate more guests.

For a more casual wedding and reception, you might think about an outdoor ceremoney. Look into parks, the beach, or even a backyard. If you are on a strict budget, this is a great option for keeping expenses low while still having a beautiful wedding.

If you love to travel and prefer a small, intimate gathering, you could consider a destination wedding. Many resorts offer wedding packages included in the cost. With this option, you don’t even have to worry about booking a separate honeymoon.

While choosing a venue may seem like a difficult task, it doesn’t necessarily have to be. Since your wedding is the most special day of your life, your venue should be a reflection of who you are.

Moving House Checklist

moving houseMoving can be both an exciting and stressful experience. But things can be made to flow along more smoothly when certain specific and proven tips are utilized in a moving checklist.

Preparing and Packing

Weeks before the van hire is arranged, individuals and families about to move need to begin their preparations quite early on in the overall moving transaction process in order to make certain everything goes as desired and planned. Some tips at this stage of the checklist include obtaining enough sturdy cardboard boxes, wrapping tape, scissors, and plenty of newspapers to surround fragile items that will be put into boxes. This packing should be done room by room and each box should be marked on the outside with a colored, felt pen as to what’s contained inside and which room of the new house it’s going into for maximum convenience and ease with the final stage of the move. Utility companies should be contacted and shut off dates should be arranged. The post office should also be notified that all mail to the old address should stop, and all creditors should be called to give them the new forwarding address for all future, regularly scheduled bills.

The Move Itself

You may wish to hire a “man with a van” – this type of van hire will usually come with at least two strong moving men who’ll do all of the removal of the packed boxes, furniture, appliances, beds, and whatever other essential items will be involved in the move. Leaving this often brutal physical labor to the movers will make the move go much more smoothly and will avoid any potential strained muscles or injuries to the homeowner if he chose to do the lifting himself with some willing friends.

The New House

Make sure to include on the checklist to remember to tell the movers exactly where each item being unloaded from the van should go inside the new home. Specifically, it’s an intelligent idea to set all the boxes in one separate area such as the garage, while placing the heaviest items into the specific places they should have been planned to go before the movers arrived. Getting all of the items unloaded and set in place correctly the first time will make the move the most satisfying and least stressful as possible.

The basics of reading Body Language

Thirty-five percent of face-to-face communication is spoken, while 65 percent of the conversation is spoken in non-verbal gestures. Often the words and gestures don’t match, therefore the person who can read body language has superior communication skills. A liar can use untruthful words, but his body language will expose him. The ability to read body language gives you the power to know when you are being lied to and when you are not. Because reading body language is not an exact science, it is important to remember a few basics.

Contextual Reading
Crossing of the arms and legs is defensive body language meant to protect the body’s vital organs from danger or attack. If talking with a person seated on a park bench on a chilly day, this posture might just mean the person is cold. If it is a warm sunny day in the park, the person is likely being defensive. An obese person unable to cross their legs, will display defensiveness in other ways.

Cultural Reading
Culture and environment are relative when reading body language. What is a positive gesture in one country could easily be considered a threat or insult in another. For instance, nodding the head up and down means ‘yes’ in many cultures; however in Bulgaria the same nodding gesture means ‘no’.

Cluster Reading
Body language gestures and postures are usually done in clusters which all need to be considered for an accurate reading. A woman twisting her hair around her finger could just be a habit or a tick, or it could be self-comforting. If the woman has her legs and arms crossed while she is playing with her hair, she is showing body language that displays nervousness, anxiety, and feelings of pressure or stress.

Congruent Reading
Does the body language match what the person is saying? A co-worker is seated at his desk with crossed arms and cradles his forehead in the palm of his hand. You ask if he is okay and he replies, “Never better”. His body language says the opposite. He is feeling threatened, defensive, and upset. Cradling the head in the hand is a sign he is self-comforting and the crossed arms display defensiveness and a sense threat. In this case, body language speaks the truth over the words being spoken.
